THE MISSION

We are a team of paddlers from WA who are kayaking Bass Strait and are seeking to raise money for a not-for-profit organisation called Houses of Healing foundation. In doing this trip, we want to raise awareness of the life controlling issues that men face like drugs, depression, alcohol and suicide which is the number one killer for men in Australia under the age of 42. Houses of Healing foundation works to see men no longer enslaved, but set free from these life controlling issues.

The Bass Strait is a bit like life - no matter how prepared, it can still be unpredictable and have some big seas. We recently had a friend who experienced these big seas in his life and found that those usual coping mechanisms like money, substances, friends and sport weren’t getting him through, so he took his own life.  As Christians we come with a message of hope in the One who created this beautiful country, that when all else fails, He won’t. - 'When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done' (Romans 6:23)

 

In other words Jesus has come to give us life and life to the full.  He promises to forgive us for the wrongs that we have done, free us from being slaves to the things this world says we should live for (wealth, succesfulness, popularity) and promises us with an eternal life in heaven.  To know that this life on earth is not all there is gives us an awesome hope for the future and fills that emptiness with joy and peace
